* A spark plug wrench
* A flat-head screwdriver
* A feeler gauge
* A timing light
1. Remove the spark plug from the engine.
2. Insert the spark plug wrench into the spark plug hole and turn it counterclockwise to loosen the spark plug.
3. Remove the spark plug from the hole.
4. Insert the feeler gauge into the spark plug hole.
5. The feeler gauge should fit snugly between the piston and the cylinder head.
6. If the feeler gauge does not fit, you will need to adjust the timing.
7. To adjust the timing, you will need to loosen the bolts that hold the ignition coil in place.
8. Once the bolts are loose, you can turn the ignition coil to adjust the timing.
9. Turn the ignition coil until the feeler gauge fits snugly between the piston and the cylinder head.
10. Tighten the bolts that hold the ignition coil in place.
11. Install the spark plug back into the hole.
12. Connect the timing light to the spark plug wire.
13. Start the engine and point the timing light at the timing marks on the flywheel.
14. The timing marks should be aligned with the marks on the engine case.
15. If the timing marks are not aligned, you will need to repeat steps 7-14 until they are.
