Why does odessa sit in the back of car when she is being taken to oak park?
In the novel *The Great Gatsby*, Odessa isn't a character. It's Daisy Buchanan who sits in the back of the car on the way to Oak Park (West Egg, actually, not Oak Park). She sits in the back because she's being treated with deference and a degree of separation from the driver (presumably Gatsby) and Jordan Baker, who's also in the car. It highlights her social status and the carefulness with which Gatsby treats her. The back seat emphasizes her importance and fragility in the context of the narrative.
