How to Enhance the Engine Longevity?

In the recent months there has been a worldwide rise in the fuel prices and to add to the woes, car repair costs have gone up too. Both these facts clearly point to one thing: this is the time when you have to maintain the car well. Engine is the heart of a car, it handles the air intake. The working of an engine can be explained in the following way: there is a piston within the engine that moves down, thus creating a vacuum. The vacuum allows the air (with atmospheric pressure) to be drawn inside the combustion chamber. When the pressure and fuel combine together, they create a unit of energy. This is a form of kinetic energy (which is also known as Horsepower) uses the ignition released from the spark plug.

Any experienced car owner knows how important it is to maintain the car’s engine. With regular usage a car deteriorates and wears out. When the parts become weak it would be an offence to neglect the slightest problem inside the bonnet. Some of the engine care tips are mentioned below for your convenience:

Car Maintenance Scheduling:

When you buy a grand new or used car, there is a manufacturer manual provided with the car. If you truly want to care for your car, then reading through the manual is very important. There would be advices on the car’s maintenance schedule suggested in this booklet. By abiding to the advices of manufacturer you can avoid various costly repairs such as drive-train, cooling system, suspension and various other components. Irregular servicing can be bad for the health of your car’s engine and even lead to mid-road breakdowns.

Cooling System:

Engines tend to produce a lot of energy and get heated very often. This heat is controlled by the cooling system installed in your car. With ageing the cooling system may become weak. You can make up for this by installing an intercooler. The intercooler is effectively an advanced form of radiator that cools or compresses the compressed air before it can enter the cooling system. This cool air will expand when it is let into the cylinder.

Exhaust System:

Exhaust system handles a lot of the back pressure created in the engine. You can relieve the exhaust system somewhat by using a second exhaust valve. Many auto experts suggest the use of free flowing mufflers, headers and big tail pipes to overcome the problems in the exhaust system.

High Compression Ratio Engine:

If you want power over mileage for your car then you can use high compression ratio engine. Such engines with their high compression ratio increase the production power. Though, if you use high combustion ratio engine for your used car then there might be a problem regarding bursting of the air fuel mixture into flames. The air fuel mixture may turn into flames before the ignition spark ignites the engine. You can overcome such a problem by using high octane gasoline.

Overloading:

Do not ever overload the car. Overloading can significantly harm your car and wear it before the desired duration. Overloading also affects a number of engine parts.

Need for Speed:

If you want more speed with your engine then it is desirable to increase the engine’s CC by increasing the number of cylinders inside the engine. It will increase the displacement and the engine will produce more power.

Oil Change:

You should change the oil after every 3000-5000 miles or 3-6 months. It will mean that there will be less pressure put on the engine. While changing the oil also make sure that the oil filter is replaced. Putting new oil through old filters makes no sense at all.

Use these tips to enhance the life of your engine. Better the engine better is the drive.
