
B-segment hatchbacks have always been widely accepted and appreciated by the Indian consumers. The petrol version of this segment of hatchbacks have always proved economically beneficial for the automobile manufacturers in India. The leading brands like Maruti Suzuki India Limited, Hyundai Motor Company, Ford Motor Company, Datsun all have tried and tested this formula. The petrol version has always been a major contributor to the overall sales numbers, especially due to uncertainty over diesel norms in the near future.
According to the reports by the sources four B-segment hatchbacks has been shortlisted as the most efficient petrol engine cars in India; viz; Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, Ford Figo, and Datsun GO.
Maruti Suzuki Swift is chosen by the customers because of its impressive looks and low running cost. High degree of fuel efficiency is one of the prime reason for its success and consumption. The petrol hatchback with a five-speed manual transmission has a fuel efficiency of 21.21 kmpl. Maruti Suzuki Swift is powered by a BS-6 compliant 1.2-liter, four-cylinder petrol engine. The fuel efficient engine generates 82 bhp at 6000 rpm and 113 Nm of torque at 4200 rpm.
Hyundai Grand i10 Nios has also made it to the list. One of the popular selling models for Hyundai, the Grand i10 Nios is powered by a BS-VI compliant 1.2-liter, four-cylinder engine that produces 81 bhp at 6000 rpm and 114 Nm at 4000 rpm. The updated petrol engine has fuel efficiency of 20.7 kmpl, which makes it the second best fuel-efficient car on our list.
The updated Figo which was introduced in India in 2019 is also among one of the most fuel efficient car. The hatchback was introduced with 1.2-liter, three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 95 bhp at 6500 rpm and 120 Nm of torque at 4250 rpm. This engine fuel efficiency figure of 20.4 kmpl. The Figo also has a bigger 1.5-liter petrol engine which gets six-speed torque converter as standard.
Datsun introduced the updated GO in October last year. The GO is powered by a 1.2-liter, three-cylinder petrol engine that generates 67 bhp at 5000 rpm and 104 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm. This engine an efficiency of 19.83 kmpl.
