Horsepower is great, styling is a bonus, and a premium interior is the cherry on top. But, at the end of the day, safety is the important thing. Today’s modern cars have some of the most advanced safety and driver-assistance features available. Some of those features are included in the Nissan Safety Shield® 360 system, standard on select models like the Nissan Frontier.
According to Nissan, Safety Shield® is a system in which “cameras, radar technology, and sonar work together to create Safety Shield® 360 a comprehensive system that looks in front, behind, and beside the vehicle as it drives. This suite of 6 advanced Nissan Intelligent Mobility features monitor around the vehicle and can step in to help keep you safe.”
This system is available in Nissan cars like the Nissan Rogue SUV. Read on to learn about the different systems included in Safety Shield® 360.
This system uses both visual and audible signals to alert the driver to obstacles in front of the vehicle. When needed, the system can even apply the brakes. This can help to lessen the damage in a crash or avoid a collision altogether. This feature can keep your Nissan Murano or Nissan Pathfinder from colliding with a vehicle or obstacle ahead.
Nothing is more annoying than being blinded by the high beams of an oncoming car. But, having to flip your lights from brights to regular strength can be just as annoying. Safety Shield® 360 High Beam Assist takes all the effort out of it for you. When driving at night, this driver-assist feature can automatically adjust your high beams in response to oncoming traffic.

Admittedly, this system is occasionally too sensitive, if you’ve ever driven with one on board. But if your Nissan Armada starts to drift, Lane Departure Warning (LDW) can give you a helpful little audible warning.
The blind spot is one of the most concerning parts of driving. Even with mirrors perfectly adjusted, you can’t always see everything. The Safety Shield® 360 Blind-Spot Warning system monitors traffic passing on either side of the vehicle and alerts you to their presence. If you try to change lanes while vehicles are in your blind spot, your equipped Nissan will loudly let you know.

This system functions very similarly to the Automatic Emergency Braking system above. If there’s an obstacle, vehicle, or stationery item behind you, your equipped Nissan will alert you if it thinks you won’t stop in time. This is another system that may be overly sensitive at times, but you know the old saying—it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Back up with confidence. Your Nissan Sentra, when equipped with Safety Shield® 360, can be a second set of eyes in the parking lot. This system can watch for oncoming traffic approaching from either side—even if you can’t see it coming.
Not all Safety Shield® 360 features are standard on all Nissan cars, trucks, and SUVs at this time. However, it is available on many models and trim levels. Here’s a list of all new 2022 Nissan trim levels to offer this safety system:
