Does it cost less to run a car or ride horse?

Riding a house is far more expensive than running most of the cars in terms of costs in the United States. On the surface, it appear running a car may cost more, but that's because gas prices can fluctuate. Horses don't run on gas, but need to eat hay and graze consistently as well as access to plenty of water at all times. Depending on the amount of land you or the boarding facility has, the amount of hay and supplements will change.

There are also expenses associated with routine care, such as check-ups from the vet, dentist, and farrier. Farriers are specialists who regularly care for your horses hooves to ensure a healthy gait and to correct or improve any potential or current problems. Horses also need to be dewormed, vaccinated, and their teeth floated from time to time to ensure they can properly eat.

Horse expenses often include tack and equipment, riding gear, and travel costs to training and show facilities. These are not required to run a car. Depending on the discipline you decide to pursue in equestrian sports, you may have an additional cost to acquire or lease horses for specific requirements in terms of genetics and training.
