How big should a single car garage be?

For most vehicles, a single car garage should be at least 12 feet wide by 20 feet long.

This provides enough space for the vehicle to be parked comfortably and for a person to walk around the sides. If you have a larger vehicle or plan to use the garage for storage or a workbench, you may want to add a few extra feet to the width or length.

Additionally, the garage door opening should be at least 8 feet wide and 7 feet high. This will accommodate most vehicles, including taller SUVs or trucks.

Here are some additional tips for designing a single car garage:

* Consider the location of the garage door. If possible, place it on the side of the house that faces the street. This will make it easier to get in and out of the garage, and it will also help to keep snow and rain out of the garage.

* Install a garage door opener. A garage door opener will make it much easier to open and close the garage door, especially if you have a heavy vehicle.

* Add insulation to the garage. This will help to keep the garage warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

* Install a workbench or storage shelves. This will help you to keep the garage organized and make it a more functional space.
