* Provide the buyer with a properly endorsed Certificate of Title.
* Provide the buyer with a smog inspection certificate unless your vehicle is exempt.
* Complete and sign a Notice of Transfer and Release of Liability (REG 262) form.
* Provide the buyer the full names of all vehicle liens.
* Notify DMV within five days (excluding Saturdays, Sundays and State holidays) of the transfer if done electronically and within ten days if done by mail-in or walk-in.
The Buyer must:
* Complete the Buyer’s portion of the Notice of Transfer and Release of Liability form.
* Apply for a new title, submit the fees and required documentation to DMV within ten calendar days of the sale/transfer.
* Register the vehicle and smog inspection certificate, if required.
