Why was the jeep made?
The Jeep was initially made to fulfill a request from the U.S. Army in 1940 for a lightweight, high-mobility military vehicle. The Army needed a vehicle that could be easily transported, reliable in various terrains, and capable of carrying personnel and supplies. Several manufacturers submitted designs, but Willys-Overland's design, the Willys MB, ultimately won the contract and became the basis for the iconic Jeep. While its initial purpose was strictly military, its versatility and ruggedness led to its immense popularity and subsequent civilian production after World War II.
