What kind of fuel is used in American cars?

The vast majority of American cars run on gasoline (petrol). A smaller, but growing, number use electricity (battery electric vehicles or BEVs) or hybrid powertrains (combining gasoline and electricity). There are also a very small number using other fuels like propane or ethanol, but these are significantly less common.
