To find them:
* Consult a repair manual: A Haynes or Chilton manual specific to your vehicle's year and engine will have diagrams showing the exact location. This is the most reliable method.
* Use an online parts diagram: Many auto parts websites (like AutoZone, Advance Auto Parts, etc.) allow you to look up parts diagrams for your specific vehicle. Find the diagram showing the engine block and look for the sensors labeled as "knock sensor".
* Visual Inspection (Difficult): With the engine somewhat cool (not hot!), carefully inspect the engine block on both sides, near the cylinder heads. Look for small, roughly cylindrical sensors screwed into the block. They might be partially obscured by other components. A mirror or a mechanic's inspection light could help.
Caution: Do not attempt to remove or test knock sensors without proper knowledge and tools. Incorrect handling can damage the sensor or the engine block. If you suspect a knock sensor issue, consult a mechanic for diagnosis and repair.
