The relay itself is usually located in one of two places:
* Under the hood in the underhood fuse block/relay center: This is the most common location. The fuse block is typically near the battery. The relay may be labeled, or you might need to consult your owner's manual or a wiring diagram to identify it.
* Inside the passenger compartment fuse panel: Less common, but possible. Again, your owner's manual or a wiring diagram will be necessary for identification.
To find it, you'll need:
1. Your owner's manual: This will have a diagram of your fuse and relay boxes.
2. A wiring diagram: A Chilton's or Haynes repair manual for your specific year and model Suburban will have detailed wiring diagrams. These diagrams show the relay's location and the wires connected to it.
3. A multimeter (optional): If you can't visually identify the relay, a multimeter can help you test relays to determine which one controls the A/C compressor.
Caution: Always disconnect the negative battery cable before working on electrical components in your vehicle. Incorrectly working with automotive electrical systems can be dangerous.
