* Under the dashboard: Look near the steering column, often on the lower left side (driver's side). It might be a small lever or a pull-knob.
* On the driver's side, near the steering wheel: Some models had it more visibly placed.
Once you locate the lever:
1. Pull the lever. This will release the hood latch.
2. Go to the front of the vehicle. You'll likely find a secondary latch at the front center of the hood. This could be a small lever, a knob, or a clip.
3. Open the hood. Carefully lift the hood. It might be heavy, so use both hands. There may be a supporting rod to keep it open; if so, extend it into place.
If you can't find the interior release:
* Check your owner's manual: This is the best resource for your specific model.
* Look closely under the dashboard: The lever can be quite small and easy to miss.
* Consider using a long, thin object: If you suspect the secondary latch is stuck, a long, thin object (like a coat hanger) *might* be able to reach and manipulate it from under the front of the vehicle. Be extremely cautious when doing this to avoid damage.
If all else fails, a mechanic can help. Trying to force the hood open could cause damage.
