It's not about the number of cylinders, but about the
power-to-weight ratio and the
skill of the driver. A lightweight 4-cylinder car with a powerful engine and skilled driver *could* potentially jump a heavier 6-cylinder car, especially if the 6-cylinder car is less powerful or the driver is less skilled at getting a good launch.
The number of cylinders is just one factor in determining an engine's power output. A powerful, highly tuned 4-cylinder could easily surpass a less powerful 6-cylinder.
