Which wire must be disconnected on a battery to not shocked?

The negative (-) wire should be disconnected first from a battery to avoid electric shock. While disconnecting either wire will eventually stop the current flow, disconnecting the negative terminal first is generally safer because it reduces the chance of a short circuit across the terminals or tools.
