Where is the fuel filter located on a 2002 chev pickup 4.8 v-8?

On a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado/Sierra 1500 with the 4.8L V8 engine, the fuel filter is located in the fuel pump module assembly inside the fuel tank. This means you can't access it without dropping the fuel tank. It's not a readily accessible filter like on some vehicles.
