Here's why:
* Different Pressure Requirements: AC compressors operate at much lower pressures than air compressors used for things like inflating tires or powering air tools. Trying to force the AC compressor to reach those higher pressures would likely damage or destroy it.
* Lubrication: AC compressors use a specific refrigerant oil for lubrication. This oil is not compatible with the compressed air and will likely cause damage if used in a higher-pressure environment.
* Safety Concerns: Improperly modifying the AC system to become an air compressor could lead to serious injury from ruptures or explosions due to pressure buildup beyond the system's design limits. The components aren't built to withstand the stress of higher pressures.
* Valve design: The valves inside the AC compressor are designed for refrigerant flow, not for efficiently compressing air. They won't work effectively and may fail.
If you need an air compressor for your Jeep, you need to install a separate, dedicated air compressor. You can find portable 12V air compressors readily available at auto parts stores or online. These are designed for the task and are much safer than trying to repurpose the AC compressor.
