Why my car battery keep a charge?

A car battery should *hold* a charge, not "keep" a charge in the sense of actively charging itself. If your car battery is holding a charge, that's good! However, if you're having trouble with it dying quickly, there's likely a problem. Here's why a car battery might not be holding a charge properly:

* Parasitic Drain: Something in your car's electrical system is drawing power even when the car is off. This could be a faulty radio, interior light, alarm system, or even a bad alternator (though a bad alternator usually prevents charging, not just holding a charge).

* Bad Battery: The battery itself might be failing. Its internal plates may be sulfating (building up a coating that prevents proper charge acceptance), or it might have a short circuit. A battery load test can determine its health.

* Alternator Issues (Indirectly): While a bad alternator prevents charging, a *weak* alternator might not fully charge the battery, leaving it perpetually slightly undercharged and prone to dying quickly.

* Corrosion: Corrosion on the battery terminals prevents a good connection, hindering both charging and starting.

* Age: Batteries have a limited lifespan (typically 3-5 years). An older battery is more likely to fail.

* Extreme Temperatures: Both very hot and very cold temperatures can affect battery performance and shorten its life.

To diagnose the problem:

1. Check the battery terminals: Clean any corrosion with a wire brush and baking soda solution.

2. Have the battery load tested: An auto parts store can perform this test for free. This will assess the battery's ability to hold a charge.

3. Have the alternator tested: This ensures it's properly charging the battery.

4. Check for parasitic drains: A mechanic can perform a parasitic draw test to identify any components drawing power when the car is off.

If your battery *is* holding a charge well and starting your car without issue, then there's nothing to worry about. But if it's dying quickly or failing to start, you need to investigate the causes mentioned above.
