What order and position are 350 Chevy cam bearings installed?

350 Chevy cam bearings are installed in a specific order and position to ensure proper alignment and oil flow. There's no single "order" number for each bearing, but rather a positional relationship within the block. They're installed in a numerical sequence corresponding to the cylinder numbers.

Order: You install them sequentially from the front (timing cover side) of the engine to the rear (oil pan side). This means bearing #1 goes in the front, closest to the crankshaft pulley, and bearing #8 goes in the rear.

Position: Each bearing is only designed to fit in its designated location. They're not interchangeable. The bearings are uniquely shaped to fit snugly into their respective bores in the engine block, which are also numbered. Make absolutely certain each bearing is in the correct bore. The inside diameters of each bearing are also not identical.

Crucial Note: Before installation, always meticulously clean the block's camshaft bearing bores to remove any debris. Also, lightly lubricate the bearings themselves (with engine oil) before installing them. Forcing them in dry is a recipe for damage. Often, a camshaft bearing installer tool is used to ensure proper seating.
