The carbureted engine uses a distributor for ignition, a carburetor for fuel delivery, and a much simpler wiring harness. The Vortec engine uses a computer-controlled fuel injection system, multiple sensors, and a completely different ignition system (likely coil-near-plug). The wiring harnesses are entirely incompatible. Trying to connect them would likely damage the engine's computer and other components.
You would need a completely different wiring harness, fuel system, and potentially even the intake manifold to make such a swap. It's a major engine conversion, not just a simple plug-and-play operation.
