While they might appear similar externally, the internal components, torque capacities, bell housings, and even the control systems (computer interfaces) are significantly different to handle the vastly different power and torque characteristics of a gasoline engine versus a diesel engine. Attempting to install the wrong transmission would result in incompatibility and likely damage.
