To be more precise, you'll need to determine if your Explorer has a distributor or coil-on-plug (COP) ignition system:
* Distributor Ignition: If it has a distributor, the coil pack will be a single unit mounted on the engine, usually near the distributor itself. It's a relatively large, rectangular box-like component.
* Coil-on-Plug (COP) Ignition: If it has coil-on-plug, there's a coil pack *for each spark plug*. These are smaller, cylindrical units and are mounted directly on top of the spark plugs themselves. You won't have a central coil pack.
To find out which system you have: Look at the top of your engine. A distributor will be a fairly prominent, cylindrical component with a wire coming out of the top. If you don't see a distributor, it's likely a coil-on-plug system. A photo of your engine bay would help confirm this.
