A new resource to help Londoners improve on-street EV charging infrastructure has been launched today (Wednesday 11th July), with Zap-Map part of the Powermystreet project.
The tool will allow residents to demonstrate demand for EV charge points, by mapping where they would like to see them. Once aggregated, this will then help planners and charge point suppliers to install units where they are most needed.
Set up by Source London in partnership with the London Evening Standard, SSE, LEVC, and CleanAir in London, Zap-Map is providing data on public on-street EV charge points within Greater London, across all networks.
Visitors to the PowermyStreet website can nominate locations where they feel a charge point would be useful. They can also see from Zap-Map’s data where existing charge point locations are, to discover either gaps in the infrastructure, or charge points that cover their area they were unaware of.
Once a charge point is nominated, visitors can then support that proposal, with the information provided set to have a direct influence on London’s on-street public EV charging infrastructure planning.
With the capital’s poor air quality repeatedly hitting the headlines, the use of EVs is becoming an increasingly important part of London’s transport system – as is the corresponding need to charge them.
Residents, businesses, community groups, and others can get involved and work together to get nominated charge points supporters. Points could be suggested near homes, workplaces, or areas that are often visited – anywhere an EV charge point would be a welcome addition to an EV driver’s routine.
