Park the Caravan in a well-lit area. Ensure the vehicle is in park, the engine is off, and the parking brake is on.
Open the hood. Locate the hood release lever inside the Caravan and pull it to release the hood. Lift the hood and secure it with the hood prop rod.
Drain the coolant. Place a drain pan under the radiator's drain plug. Open the drain plug and allow the coolant to drain completely.
Remove the serpentine belt. Refer to the vehicle's repair manual for the specific instructions on removing the serpentine belt.
Remove the water pump. Locate the water pump on the front of the engine. It is usually held in place by several bolts. Remove the bolts and remove the water pump.
Clean the water pump mounting surface. Use a scraper to remove any old gasket material from the water pump mounting surface. Ensure that the surface is clean and dry.
Install a new water pump gasket. Apply a thin layer of sealant to the water pump gasket. Place the new gasket onto the water pump mounting surface.
Install the water pump. Replace the water pump and secure it with the bolts. Tighten the bolts to the specified torque.
Reinstall the serpentine belt. Refer to the vehicle's repair manual for the specific instructions on reinstalling the serpentine belt.
Fill the coolant system. Add the specified amount of coolant to the radiator. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check the coolant level and add more if necessary.
