How much did the cars in 1930s cost?

In the United States, the average price of a new car was $700 in 1930, and $550 in 1939. However, the range was wide, from $350 for a basic Ford or Chevrolet, to $2,500 for a luxury car such as a Cadillac or Packard.

In the UK, the average price of a new car was £150 in 1930, and £200 in 1939. Again, the range was wide, from £100 for a basic Austin or Morris, to £1,000 for a luxury car such as a Rolls-Royce or Bentley.

In Germany, the average price of a new car was 2,000 Reichsmarks in 1930, and 2,500 Reichsmarks in 1939. The range was from 1,000 Reichsmarks for a basic Opel or DKW, to 10,000 Reichsmarks for a luxury car such as a Mercedes-Benz or Maybach.

These prices are in nominal terms, and do not take into account the effects of inflation. In real terms, the cost of cars was significantly lower in the 1930s than it is today.
