How do you change the transmission filter on a 96 Honda Passport?

Tools You'll Need:

- New transmission fluid

- New filter

- Funnel

- 3/8-inch ratchet and socket

- Clean rag

- Drain pan

- Safety goggles

Procedure:

1. Park your Passport on a level surface.

2. Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down.

3. Crawl underneath the vehicle and locate the transmission pan. It is held in place by several 3/8-inch bolts.

4. Place the drain pan under transmission pan.

5. Loosen the bolts and allow the transmission fluid to drain into the pan.

6. Once the fluid has drained, remove the bolts and carefully remove the pan.

7. Locate the transmission filter. It is a cylindrical-shaped object with a black top.

8. Using a clean rag, wipe off the gasket mating surface on the transmission case.

9. Apply a thin coat of new transmission fluid to the gasket mating surface.

10. Place the new filter in place and hand-tighten the bolts that secure it.

11. Replace the transmission pan and hand-tighten the bolts.

12. Lower the vehicle and add new transmission fluid through the dipstick tube.

13. Start the Passport and let it run for a few minutes to circulate the new transmission fluid.

14. Check the fluid level and add more if necessary.

Tips:

- Be careful not to spill any transmission fluid. It can be harmful to your skin and eyes.

- If you have any difficulty accessing the transmission pan or filter, you may want to take your vehicle to a qualified mechanic.
