The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs) require that drivers of commercial motor vehicles wear shoes or other footwear while driving. This is to ensure that the driver has proper control of the vehicle and can safely operate the vehicle in all conditions.
Specifically, FMCSA regulation 392.2(b)(1) states: "Every person shall drive a commercial motor vehicle in a safe manner. Driving a commercial motor vehicle in any of the following conditions is not safe." And in example (v) of the same section, it states: "Barefoot".
Driving a commercial motor vehicle barefoot can be dangerous because the driver may not have the same level of control over the vehicle as they would if they were wearing shoes. This can lead to accidents and injuries.
In addition, driving a commercial motor vehicle barefoot is also a violation of the law and can result in fines and penalties.
