BMW increases production of the i models

BMW has announced that by autumn of this year, the production of the i models will increase from 130 to 200 daily units. This represents an increase of 54 percent.

Production of BMW i models will rise much earlier, in autumn of this year, from 130 to 200 units a day to meet the welcome growth in demand.

The expansion is already under way.

The BMW Group is to invest more than €300 million in its Leipzig plant. Comprehensive construction work to extend and update the body and paint shops, assembly and logistics is already under way, laying the foundation for continued growth and the production of future models in Leipzig.

During this year, not only the production rate of the i models will increase, but also the battery capacities will get a boost. The 2019 BMW i3 will have its battery upgraded from 33,4 to 42,6 kWh and the 2019 BMW i8 from 7,1 to 11,6 kWh.

This is only possible thanks to the opening of the new Samsung SDI battery plant in Europe (Hungary) this year.

As it seems, 40 kWh is becoming the minimal battery capacity acceptable in modern electric cars.
