When were VW vans first introduced?

The iconic Volkswagen Type 2, popularly known as VW vans or camper vans, were first introduced in 1950. The vehicle was known as the Transporter in Europe and as the Microbus in North America. The Type 2 was designed based on the Volkswagen Type 1, also known as the Beetle.
