1. Open the hood of your vehicle.
2. Locate the black plastic cover on the left-hand side of the engine compartment. It is near the windshield washer fluid reservoir.
3. Unlatch the plastic cover from the front end and lift it out to remove to expose the battery terminals.
Note: Disconnect the negative terminal (–) first! The red terminal should have a red protective plastic cover that needs to be lifted before attaching and detaching, otherwise you can burn yourself badly (personal experience from jumping another Volkswagen that did not have that plastic safety cap)
