1. Park your Beetle in a safe location and turn off the engine.
2. Open the hood of your Beetle.
3. Locate the battery. It is located in the front of the engine compartment, on the passenger side.
4. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Use a wrench to loosen the nut that holds the negative battery cable to the battery terminal. Be careful not to touch the positive battery terminal with the wrench.
5. Disconnect the positive battery cable. Use a wrench to loosen the nut that holds the positive battery cable to the battery terminal.
6. Remove the old battery. Lift the battery out of the battery tray. Be careful not to drop the battery.
7. Inspect the battery tray. Make sure that the battery tray is clean and free of corrosion. If there is any corrosion, clean it off with a wire brush.
8. Place the new battery in the battery tray. Make sure that the positive terminal of the battery is facing up.
9. Connect the positive battery cable. Use a wrench to tighten the nut that holds the positive battery cable to the battery terminal.
10. Connect the negative battery cable. Use a wrench to tighten the nut that holds the negative battery cable to the battery terminal.
11. Close the hood of your Beetle.
Tips:
* When disconnecting the battery cables, be careful not to touch the positive and negative terminals together. This could cause a spark and damage the electrical system of your Beetle.
* If you are not comfortable replacing the battery yourself, you can have it done by a qualified mechanic.
