- The definitive version of the Lightning, featuring more powerful engines, a redesigned canopy, and improved armament with four 20mm cannons.
P-38L:
- A specialized long-range reconnaissance variant with additional fuel tanks and cameras.
P-38M:
- A low-altitude interceptor armed with ten 5-inch HVAR rockets.
P-38Q:
- A dedicated photo-reconnaissance variant with cameras and a modified nose section.
