- Oil drain pan
- Wrench or ratched with shallow socket or Allen wrench
Instructions:
1. Park your vehicle in a safe location that allows you to safely work underneath it. Make sure the motor is off and apply the parking brake.
2. Locate the oil filter housing on the lower left side of the engine block, near the front. It is a black, cylindrical-shaped housing that has the oil filter inside it.
3. Place an oil drain pan underneath the oil filter housing to catch any dripping oil.
4. There are two types of oil filter cap configurations:
* 17 mm bolt or Allen wrench fitting located on the top side of the oil filter housing.
* 32 mm plastic oil filter cap.
Using a wrench or ratchet with the appropriate size socket or Allen wrench, loosen and remove the oil cap to access the oil filter. (Note: If it's the 32 mm plastic cap, it may be hand-loosened and removed; no tools required.)
5. Once you remove the oil cap, you will see the oil filter inside the housing. Grasp the oil filter and turn counterclockwise to loosen and remove it. Take care that you do not spill or get sprayed by any oil.
6. Apply a thin coat of new engine oil to the rubber seal of the new oil filter before installing it.
7. Screw the new oil filter into the oil filter housing by hand until it is snug. Do not overtighten the filter as it may damage the gasket.
8. Replace the oil filter housing cap by screwing it back into place and tighten it securely. If it's the 32 mm plastic cap, hand tighten the cap securely without using excessive force.
9. Dispose of the old oil filter and oil in accordance with your local regulations.
10. Add oil to the engine based on oil capacity guidelines specified in the owner's manual and check for leaks before starting your vehicle.
