1. Open the hood and find the negative battery terminal.
2. Loosen the nut that holds the negative battery cable to the terminal using a wrench.
3. Pull the negative battery cable off of the terminal.
4. Put the nut back on the terminal and screw it in tightly by hand. You only need to make it finger-tight.
5. Close the hood of your car.
6. Using the key, lock and unlock the driver’s door.
7. Open and close the driver's door.
8. Open the hood and reconnect the negative battery cable.
9. Start your car.
10. If the airbag light does not go off as you drive, turn the engine off and wait 10 minutes.
11. Turn the key back to ON without starting the car.
12. Wait another 10 minutes and then start your car.
13. The airbag light should now be off.
Option 2. Using Scan Tool to Turn off Airbag Light
1. You can also turn off the airbag light by using a scan tool.
2. Purchase a scan tool capable of reading and erasing airbag diagnostic trouble codes.
3. Turn the key to the ON position.
4. Connect the scan tool to your car's diagnostic port.
5. Use the scan tool to read the diagnostic trouble codes.
6. Select the option to clear the codes.
