Because: While S-10 frames (1982-2004) have retained virtually the same dimensions over the years, engine/tranny configurations (1st Gens had the drivetrain offset to one side for clearance; later versions didn't have this configuration), transmission mounting options, crossmember configurations, driveshaft lengths as well as the electronic and computer controls can cause issues.
