1. Gather the necessary tools and materials.
- Wire strippers
- Crimping tool
- Electrical tape
- 4-pin trailer connector (male)
- 2-pin converter kit
- 12-gauge wire (black, white, green, yellow)
- Fuses (15A and 20A)
- Self-tapping screws
2. Locate the taillight harness.
- Open the rear of your van and remove the taillight assembly.
- Locate the taillight harness, which is a bundle of wires that connect the taillights to the vehicle's electrical system.
3. Identify the taillight wires.
- Use a multimeter to identify the following taillight wires:
- Left turn signal: Green wire
- Right turn signal: Yellow wire
- Running lights: Brown wire
- Ground: Black wire
4. Connect the converter kit.
- Cut a section of 12-gauge black wire about 12 inches long.
- Connect one end of the black wire to the ground wire on the taillight harness.
- Connect the other end of the black wire to the ground terminal on the converter kit.
- Cut a section of 12-gauge white wire about 18 inches long.
- Connect one end of the white wire to the running lights wire on the taillight harness.
- Connect the other end of the white wire to the running lights terminal on the converter kit.
5. Connect the 4-pin trailer connector.
- Cut a section of 12-gauge black wire about 18 inches long.
- Connect one end of the black wire to the ground terminal on the converter kit.
- Connect the other end of the black wire to the ground pin on the 4-pin trailer connector.
- Cut a section of 12-gauge green wire about 18 inches long.
- Connect one end of the green wire to the left turn signal terminal on the converter kit.
- Connect the other end of the green wire to the left turn signal pin on the 4-pin trailer connector.
- Cut a section of 12-gauge yellow wire about 18 inches long.
- Connect one end of the yellow wire to the right turn signal terminal on the converter kit.
- Connect the other end of the yellow wire to the right turn signal pin on the 4-pin trailer connector.
- Cut a section of 12-gauge white wire about 18 inches long.
- Connect one end of the white wire to the running lights terminal on the converter kit.
- Connect the other end of the white wire to the running lights pin on the 4-pin trailer connector.
6. Install the 4-pin trailer connector.
- Choose a suitable location for the 4-pin trailer connector on the rear of your van.
- Drill a hole in the sheet metal and install the 4-pin trailer connector.
- Secure the connector in place with the provided screws.
7. Test the trailer wiring.
- Connect a trailer to the 4-pin trailer connector and turn on the headlights and taillights on your van.
- Verify that the trailer lights are working properly.
8. Install the fuses.
- Insert the 15A fuse into the "tail lights" fuse slot in the fuse box.
- Insert the 20A fuse into the "trailer brakes" fuse slot in the fuse box
