How do you change the heater core on a 1996 GMC half ton pickup?

1. Disconnect the battery. This will prevent any electrical accidents from happening while you are working on the heater core.

2. Drain the coolant. You can do this by opening the petcock on the bottom of the radiator.

3. Remove the heater hoses. There are two heater hoses that connect the heater core to the engine. Use a wrench to loosen the hose clamps and then pull the hoses off of the heater core nipples.

4. Remove the heater core cover. The heater core cover is located on the inside of the vehicle, behind the glove box. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws that hold the cover in place and then pull the cover off.

5. Remove the heater core. The heater core is held in place by two bolts. Use a wrench to loosen the bolts and then lift the heater core out of the vehicle.

6. Inspect the heater core for damage. If the heater core is damaged, you will need to replace it.

7. Install the new heater core. If the heater core is not damaged, you can reinstall it. To do this, simply reverse the steps that you took to remove it.

8. Fill the coolant reservoir. Add coolant to the reservoir until it is full.

9. Reconnect the battery. Turn on the engine and let it run for a few minutes. This will allow the coolant to circulate through the heater core and warm up the vehicle.

10. Test the heater. Turn on the heater and make sure that it is blowing hot air. If it is not, there may be a problem with the heater core or the coolant system.
