2. Remove the distributor cap by turning it counterclockwise.
3. Look inside the distributor cap and find the rotor. The rotor is a small, round piece of metal with a contact point on the end.
4. The starting position for the distributor cap is when the contact point on the rotor is aligned with the number one spark plug wire.
5. To set the starting position, insert a flat-head screwdriver into the slot on the rotor and turn it until the contact point is aligned with the number one spark plug wire.
6. Replace the distributor cap and turn it clockwise until it is snug.
