2. Remove the distributor cap. To do this, loosen the two screws that hold it in place and lift it off of the distributor.
3. Inspect the spark plug wires. Look for any that are damaged or cracked. If you find any damaged wires, replace them.
4. Position the spark plug wires. Each wire should be positioned so that it goes to the correct spark plug. The firing order for a 1989 Chevy Silverado 4.3 is 1-6-5-4-3-2-7-8.
5. Start by installing the wire for spark plug number 1. Push the wire down onto the spark plug until it snaps into place.
6. Continue installing the spark plug wires in the firing order. Work your way around the engine, clockwise, until all of the wires are installed.
7. Replace the distributor cap. Place the distributor cap back onto the distributor and install the two screws that hold it in place.
8. Start the engine and check for any misfires. If you experience any misfires, double-check that the spark plug wires are installed correctly.
