- New thermostat
- Ratchet set
- Socket set
1. Locate the thermostat housing. The thermostat housing on the 1983 Oldsmobile Royal Brougham is on the left side of the engine behind the cylinder head.
2. Remove the two bolts holding the thermostat housing cover in place.
3. Lift off the thermostat housing cover and remove the old thermostat.
4. Inspect the thermostat for damage or debris. If the thermostat is damaged or clogged, replace it with a new one.
5. Reinstall the thermostat housing cover and secure it with the two bolts.
6. Reattach the hose.
7. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check to make sure that the thermostat is functioning properly by feeling the upper and lower radiator hoses. The upper hose should be hot, while the lower hose should be cool.
