A multimeter can be used to measure the RMS power output of an amplifier by measuring the voltage and current output. The RMS power is calculated by multiplying the voltage and current readings.
Let's show you how to measure the RMS power output of an amplifier using a multimeter:
Step 1: Turn off the amplifier and disconnect all the speakers.
Step 2: Set the multimeter to the AC voltage range that is higher than the expected RMS power output of the amplifier.
Step 3: Connect the black lead of the multimeter to the ground terminal of the amplifier and the red lead of the multimeter to the positive terminal of the amplifier.
Step 4: Turn on the amplifier and set the volume to maximum.
Step 5: Read the voltage reading on the multimeter. This is the RMS voltage output of the amplifier.
Step 6: To calculate the RMS current output of the amplifier, divide the RMS voltage output by the impedance of the speakers. The impedance of the speakers is usually printed on the back of the speakers.
Step 7: To calculate the RMS power output of the amplifier, multiply the RMS voltage output by the RMS current output.
The result of the calculation is the RMS power output of the amplifier.
