- Small flat-bladed screwdriver
- WD-40
- Jack
- Jack stands
Instructions:
1. Apply the handbrake fully and chock the diagonally opposite wheel to the one that needs to be removed to prevent the vehicle from rolling. Jack the vehicle up and support it securely on jack stands.
2. Remove the wheel on the side with the broken cable.
3. Locate the handbrake cable bracket at the back of the brake caliper. It is held in place by a 13mm bolt. Remove this bolt and take the bracket off.
4. At this point, you should be able to see the end of the old handbrake cable. Use a pair of needle nose pliers to pull the old cable out of its housing and remove it from the vehicle.
5. Disconnect the handbrake cable from the handbrake lever inside the vehicle. There is a small metal clip holding the cable in place. Use a screwdriver to remove the clip and then disconnect the cable.
6. Pull the new handbrake cable through into the engine compartment. Attach the end of the new cable to the handbrake lever inside the vehicle.
7. Fit the new cable to the handbrake cable bracket at the back of the caliper, secure with the 13mm bolt, and reconnect the handbrake cable to the lever.
8. Lower the vehicle and test the handbrake.
