Follow these steps to replace the oil filter:
1. Park your car on a level surface and turn off the engine. Allow the engine to cool down for a few minutes.
2. Locate the oil drain pan. It is located underneath the engine, near the front.
3. Place the oil drain pan under the oil drain plug. The oil drain plug is located on the bottom of the oil pan.
4. Loosen the oil drain plug using a wrench. Be careful not to drop the bolt into the oil pan.
5. Allow the oil to drain completely into the oil drain pan. This may take a few minutes.
6. Replace the oil drain plug once the oil has drained completely. Tighten the plug securely.
7. Locate the oil filter. It is located near the top of the engine, on the passenger side.
8. Use a wrench to loosen the oil filter. Be careful not to spill any oil.
9. Remove the old oil filter and discard it.
10. Apply a thin coat of new oil to the gasket of the new oil filter. This will help to create a seal and prevent leaks.
11. Screw the new oil filter onto the oil filter housing. Tighten the filter until it is snug.
12. Add new oil to the engine. Use the funnel to add oil to the engine until the oil level reaches the "Full" mark on the dipstick.
13. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. This will circulate the new oil throughout the engine.
14. Check the oil level again. If the oil level is low, add more oil until it reaches the "Full" mark on the dipstick.
That's it! You have now successfully replaced the oil filter in your 2009 Pontiac G3.
