Instructions:
1. Park your van in a safe location and turn off the engine. Allow it to cool down completely.
2. Locate the freeze plugs. The rear freeze plugs on a 1989 Dodge Ram Van are located on the back of the engine block, just below the cylinder heads.
3. Place a rag underneath the freeze plug to catch any coolant that may leak out.
4. Use a hammer and flathead screwdriver to pry the old freeze plug out of the block. Be careful not to damage the surrounding metal.
5. Clean the surface of the block where the old freeze plug was located.
6. Apply a thin coat of sealant to the new freeze plug.
7. Tap the new freeze plug into place using a hammer and flathead screwdriver.
8. Repeat steps 4-7 for the other rear freeze plug.
9. Fill the radiator with antifreeze/coolant using a funnel.
10. Run the engine for a few minutes to circulate the coolant.
11. Check for leaks and top off the coolant level as needed.
Tips:
- If you are not comfortable performing this repair yourself, you can take your van to a qualified mechanic.
- Be sure to use the correct type of antifreeze/coolant for your vehicle.
- If you spill any antifreeze/coolant, clean it up immediately, as it is toxic to pets and children.
