Where is the fuel pump on 1997 s-10 Chevy?

Below are instructions on replacing a fuel pump on a 1997 Chevy S-10

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Start by disconnecting the negative battery cable to avoid any electrical accidents while working on the fuel pump.

Locate the negative terminal on the battery, which is usually marked with a minus (-) symbol.

Loosen the nut on the negative terminal using a wrench or socket set.

Remove the nut and lift off the negative cable from the terminal.

2. Relieve fuel system pressure. To safely remove the fuel pump, it’s important to first relieve the pressure in the fuel system.

Locate the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail.

Remove the vacuum line from the regulator.

Press the center of the valve in the regulator to release fuel pressure. You may need to place a shop towel underneath to catch any spilling fuel.

3. Drop the fuel tank. To access the fuel pump, you’ll need to drop the fuel tank.

Locate the fuel tank straps on both sides of the vehicle.

Loosen the bolts holding the fuel tank straps.

Lower the fuel tank, making sure to support it with a jack or something similar to prevent it from dropping unexpectedly.

4. Remove the fuel pump assembly. Once the fuel tank is lowered, you’ll be able to see the fuel pump assembly.

Disconnect any electrical connectors or fuel lines attached to the fuel pump.

Remove the bolts or screws holding the fuel pump in place, and carefully lift it out of the tank.

5. Install the new fuel pump. Make sure the new fuel pump is compatible with your vehicle. Then gently lower it into the fuel tank.

Secure the fuel pump using the bolts or screws removed earlier.

Reconnect the electrical connectors and fuel lines.

6. Raise the fuel tank. Slowly raise the fuel tank back into its original position.

Secure it by tightening the bolts or straps removed earlier.

7. Reconnect the battery. Connect the negative battery cable to the terminal and tighten the nut.

8. Start the engine and check for leaks. Turn on the ignition and listen for any unusual sounds or leaks. Check for leaks around the fuel pump and fuel lines. If everything seems normal, go ahead and take your S-10 for a test drive.

Remember to always follow the specific instructions provided in the vehicle’s repair manual for precise details related to your vehicle’s fuel pump replacement process.
