How do you change the ignition switch on a 1990 Cadillac DeVille?

1. Disconnect the battery.

2. Remove the steering wheel.

3. Remove the ignition switch cover.

4. Remove the ignition switch lock cylinder.

5. Install the new ignition switch lock cylinder.

6. Install the ignition switch cover.

7. Reinstall the steering wheel.

8. Connect the battery.

1. Disconnect the battery.

To do this, use a wrench to loosen the negative battery terminal (the one marked with a "-"). Then, use your hands to pull the terminal off of the battery.

2. Remove the steering wheel.

To do this, you will need a steering wheel puller. Follow the instructions that came with your steering wheel puller to remove the steering wheel.

3. Remove the ignition switch cover.

The ignition switch cover is located around the ignition switch. It is held in place by two screws. Use a screwdriver to remove the two screws, and then remove the ignition switch cover.

4. Remove the ignition switch lock cylinder.

The ignition switch lock cylinder is located inside the ignition switch cover. It is held in place by a retaining ring. Use a screwdriver to pry up the retaining ring, and then remove the ignition switch lock cylinder.

5. Install the new ignition switch lock cylinder.

To do this, simply insert the new ignition switch lock cylinder into the ignition switch housing. Then, push down on the retaining ring to secure the lock cylinder in place.

6. Install the ignition switch cover.

Replace the ignition switch cover and secure it with the two screws that you removed earlier.

7. Reinstall the steering wheel.

To do this, simply follow the instructions that came with your steering wheel puller in reverse order.

8. Connect the battery.

Finally, reconnect the negative battery terminal that you disconnected earlier.
