- Disconnect water pump hoses from water pump.
- Remove the drive belt.
- Remove the water pump mounting bolts and remove the pump. Note that the coolant thermostat housing also mounts to the water pump.
Notes:
- Some 1997 Chevrolet Express 3500 models may have used the older (1995-1996) style pump and thermostat housing and may have also had a separate thermostat housing, which can be unbolted and transferred over to the new water pump.
- On most vehicles with the engine installed in the vehicle, it will be necessary to remove at least one motor mount in order to have enough room to remove the water pump.
