1. Open the hood of your car.
2. Locate the air filter housing. It is a black plastic box located on the top of the engine, near the front of the car.
3. Remove the two bolts that hold the air filter housing in place. You will need a Phillips head screwdriver to remove these bolts.
4. Once the bolts are removed, lift the air filter housing up and off of the engine.
5. Remove the old air filter from the housing. It is a rectangular piece of paper or foam.
6. Insert a new air filter into the housing. Make sure that the new filter is the same size and shape as the old filter.
7. Put the air filter housing back on the engine and secure it with the two bolts.
8. Close the hood of your car.
That's it! You have now successfully removed and replaced the air filter in your Mazda 626 LX V6 1998.
