Instructions
_Fuel System Precautions_
>Be very careful when working on the fuel system. Always work in a well-ventilated area and avoid any open flames or sparks. If any fuel spills, clean it up immediately.
_Fuel Tank Level_
>Lower fuel tank to half full or less for easier removal.
1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
- To prevent any accidental sparks or electrical shocks, disconnect the negative terminal of the battery before starting any work.
>Note: Make sure the fuel tank level is low or the vehicle is raised using jack stands. It is very important to relieve the fuel pressure before starting the fuel pump removal.
2. Relieve fuel pressure.
>There is a Schrader valve located on the fuel injection rail. Using a flat-head screwdriver, turn the valve clockwise to "open" to release the fuel pressure. Do this carefully and slowly. Place a rag under the valve to catch any released fuel.
3. Remove the fuel line.
>Disconnect the fuel line from the fuel pump module by using a fuel line disconnect tool. You may hear some fuel spilling but this is normal since there is still some pressure in the line.
4. Remove the fuel pump module.
>There is a locking ring around the fuel pump module that secures it. Rotate the ring counterclockwise and pull the fuel pump module up to remove it from the tank.
5. Replace the fuel pump.
>Remove the old fuel pump from the fuel pump assembly. Insert the new fuel pump into the assembly, making sure to secure the filter end into place.
6. Reinstall the fuel pump assembly into the fuel tank.
>Position the fuel pump assembly into the fuel tank and turn the locking ring clockwise until it clicks and secures in place.
7. Reconnect the fuel lines and fuel injector connectors.
>Make sure the fuel lines and injector connections are secure and there is no leakage.
8. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
>After the fuel pump has been replaced, reconnect the negative terminal to the battery.
_Test_:
1. Start the vehicle.
2. Check for any fuel leaks.
3. Listen for any unusual noises from the fuel pump.
4. If everything seems to be in order, take your car for a test drive.
