How do you add Freon R-134A to the air conditioner of 1990 Honda Accord LX?

Adding Freon R-134A refrigerant to your vehicle should only be attempted if you have the proper training and equipment. R-134A is a harmful substance that can be dangerous to handle so I recommend that you have the A/C system serviced by a professional. However, if you are still determined to do this yourself, here is a guide on how to add Freon R-134A to your vehicle's air conditioner.

1. Open the hood and Locate the low pressure side of your A/C compressor that is usually identified with a blue cap or a "L" sticker.

2. Connect the refrigerant hose from the refrigerant can to the low pressure port.

3. Tighten the fitting securely.

4. Start your vehicle and let it run for 5 minutes to circulate the refrigerant.

5. Check the refrigerant level in the system by observing the air conditioning system sight glass if equipped, it should begin to frost up when viewing from the passenger side and should stop after 3 seconds of compressing the air conditioning clutch cycle which is normally every 10 seconds. If the sight glass begins to frost at any time during the cycle the system is properly charged and you should allow the system to purge the frosting through it's cycles until it clears to the original green coloring then top it off with an additional 2oz.

6. If the system is still not properly charged, repeat the process until the sight glass begins to frost up when viewed from the passenger side of the vehicle and should stop within 3 seconds of the compressor clutch cycling off which is every 10 seconds.

7. Disconnect the refrigerant hose and replace the cap on the low pressure fitting port securely.

8. Test your air conditioner to make sure it is working properly by turning it on and adjusting the temperature to the coldest setting.
